☆ Autumny chocolate fondue with a nod to the Levant ☆

By Mooncake •

This Levantine chocolate fondue gives you the right vibe to get into autumn. In the melted chocolate you dip kakifruit, grilled pear and...

In the race to become Foodblogger of the year, I came across a fondueset in my package. I also received a piece of Emmentaler cheese, but to be honest, I am far from a fan of that. I put the cheese aside (my husband knew how to handle it) and decided to put together an over-the-top chocolate fondue set that is especially perfect for cold, rainy days. I did my grocery shopping in my beloved Javastraat, near Tigris and Euphrates (a great name for a supermarket) and created the, in my eyes, ideal chocolate fondue. Delicious to spend an afternoon with a group of friends and girlfriends, open a bottle of port and let the chocolate melt, together with your conscience. Ha!

Here is how you make it:

The recipe is simple. Melt the chocolate in a bain-marie. Add some cinnamon, maybe some salt, and a pinch of cardamom for the lovers. You can also add some liqueur.

Open a bottle of port, wine or liqueur and/or pour some refreshing mint tea. Invite some interesting people you think might be interested. Make sure you have (dried) fruit, nuts, cookies (long fingers are handy) etc. to dip into the chocolate and let the ritual slowly take hold of you.

I bought delicious nougat and other Arab (halal) sweets with cardamom and orange blossom water, and besides that I had kaki, pomegranate, soft dates, almonds, tamarind, dried apricots and peaches, and I roasted a pear on the grill plate that was also included in my package. I roasted some ground coconut to give your chocolate drink a final touch.
