🇰🇿 Here you can drink Kazakh tea with millet and specialty coffee 🇰🇿

By Mooncake •

In this Kazakh coffee oasis you can go for Kazakh tea with millet, Kazakh chocolate and specialty coffee.

In my book All You Can Eat – the new dining guide of the Netherlands you will find 450 addresses and tips and 120 different food cultures. There are therefore few food cultures in the Netherlands that are still unknown to me, which is why I went wild with enthusiasm when I accidentally discovered a nice Kazakh coffee oasis. A new addition to the total excess that already prevails here.

Qazaq Coffee as a mood booster

Qazaq Coffee is run by Talgat and Zhibek Aubakirov and opened in the summer of 2023. A visit to this little place is the mood booster you need in the month of February. Or simply whenever life throws things at you and you just need something nice.

You are surrounded by Kazakh souvenirs, chocolate, pastries and the aroma of coffee. And you can sink into this Kazakh coffee corner:

Talgat and Zhibek come from Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan. Together they created their own Qazaq coffee blend:

Both the couple and their homemade blend are very popular in the neighbourhood. And delicious as the coffee may be, it is not the only thing that matters at Qazaq Coffee. Qazaq means “a free person”, which fits well with Talgat's nomadic lifestyle and adventurous attitude. With the coffee shop, they want to be a hub of cultural exchange, share knowledge about Kazakh culture, and welcome locals and travellers.

Kazakh tea with tary (millet)

Typically Kazakh is black tea with milk and tary: roasted millet that is usually prepared at home. The millet releases some flavour and sinks to the bottom. In Kazakhstan (and now also in Amsterdam), the tea also serves as breakfast, as the millet is spooned up and eaten.

Tea and dairy have been an important part of Kazakhstan for centuries, and tea culture is a daily part of the lives of many people there, being a tradition that brings families together.
